How do you Care for your Charcuterie Board?

Charcuterie Boards have become quite popular in recent years; however, the word Charcuterie (I.E cured meats) dates its origin back to the 15 th century. Different types of cured meats, which were mainly smoked at that time, were then prepared into a variety of sausages and dry-aged meats. Today a Charcuterie Board is widely used to prepare an assortment of Charcuterie such as prosciutto, ham, chorizo, and Italian salami just to name a few. In addition, the charcuterie board consists of many other savory bites that include crackers, nuts, cheeses, olives, fruit and any kind of hand-held treats.

Use your imagination and fill up the Charcuterie board with these tasty delicacies and share them with your friends. After all,

Happiness is sharing good food with great friends.”

Wood boards are typically used to display Charcuterie along with a selection of food for sharing. At H & K Wood Designs we’ve sold many different sizes and shapes of Charcuterie boards with a variety of wood species. The most popular species is walnut however many of our clients prefer cherry, spalted maple or hard maple. And all boards made at HK Wood Designs are live edge, meaning your charcuterie board is designed to incorporate the outside edge of the tree. Some clients prefer the bark to remain on, if yours has some, it may chip under use – after all it’s the natural bark of the tree. But onto our question – now that you’ve purchased your Charcuterie Board from HK Wood Designs how do you care for it?

Here are a few tips:

  • Do not immerse in water

  • Wipe off the board with a damp cloth and then wipe dry. Never put away wet – allow it to completely dry before storage.

  • Your Charcuterie board is natural wood so some fruits, jellies or sauces may stain your charcuterie board so we suggest using a small dish for these items.

  • If your Charcuterie Board starts to appear dry an effective way to refresh your board is to apply a food safe mineral oil using a clean cloth and spread evenly over the board. Let it dry for a couple of days.

  • In the event your board is heavily scratched or stained it can be sanded or planned to remove these unwanted marks. Once these marks are removed treat with food safe products.

Taking care of your board doesn’t require a lot of effort, but it does ensure you’ll have years to enjoy it with family and friends.

Cheers,

H&K Wood Designs
